Montreal filmmaker Mathieu Roy takes his inspiration for this documentary from Ronald Wright’s The History of Progress, which shows how past civilizations were destroyed by “progress traps”, technologies and belief systems that serve immediate needs but ransom the future. With potent images and insights from thinkers such as Margaret Atwood, Jane Goodall, Stephen Hawking, Vaclav Smil and others, we are reminded that “we have to use less”. Unlike other doom-and-gloom docs, this one provides ideas of how to live within the limits of this planet.
