In present day South Korea, a small rural community is shocked by the suicide drowning of a high school girl. Meanwhile Mija, who’s been diagnosed with the beginning stages of Alzheimer’s disease, registers for a poetry class. She carries on with the endless caretaking of her sullen grandson and the infirm patriarch for whom she is a care aide. Director Chang-dong Lee ties all the pieces together as Mija and the audience is taken on a journey of discovery. |
